- interview users and managers; analyse data from existing systems
- diagnose current situation, strengths and weaknesses
- give feedback on existing systems and processes
- recommend process development and organisation design
- identify relevant indicators of performance (e.g. utilisation, bid conversion rate, backlog, project profitability, retention, sales risk)
- specify and implement data collection and analysis
- design dashboards comparing actuals and targets
- specify, prototype, run manual system as proof of concept
- design and launch processes for:
- resource forecasting and allocation (taking account of availability, skill matching, development objectives)
- pipeline management and revenue forecasting
- project budgeting and management (including trade-offs between cost, quality and schedule)
- develop interfaces with decision-making processes such as pricing, bid/no-bid, resolution of resource clashes, recruitment
- manage operations hands-on while developing processes
- plan staff succession and deliver training
- document and hand over operational processes
- write proposals, marketing materials and corporate collateral
- edit project deliverables, improving clarity and consistency of communication
